 Biography

Amia Langer, soprano  is a 2026 Teatro Nuovo Resident Artist, covering Fiorilla in Rossini's Il Turco in Italia. Ms. Langer most recently made her Annapolis Opera company and role debut as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, and her Opera in the Heights company and role debut as Norina in Donizetti's Don Pasquale.

 

Upcoming engagements  include a return to Ars Lyrica Houston as Euridice/La Musica in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo . Earlier in the 2025-2026 Season Ms. Langer received an Encouragement Award from the 2025 Camille Coloratura Competition, and made her company debut with the Houston based Mercury Chamber Orchestra as Bastienne in Mozart: Cats and Mice (adapted from Bastien und Bastienne).

 

In the 2024–2025 season, Ms. Langer performed the roles of Sandman/Dew Fairy in Hansel und Gretel with Grand Teton Music Festival as her company debut, made her role and company debut as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with Salt Marsh Opera, and later returned in concert with Salt Marsh Opera featuring works by Verdi, Donizetti, Mozart, and Bernstein. She was also named a finalist in the 2025 Houston Saengerbund Vocal Competition, and appeared with Ars Lyrica Houston in concert featuring works by Monteverdi.

 

During the 2023–2024 season Ms. Langer was a 2024 Studio Artist with Chautauqua Opera Company, covering Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel and performing as the Dew Fairy. Earlier in that season she sang with Chautauqua Opera Company's education outreach program in an abridged production of Hansel und Gretel as well. She also toured with Houston Grand Opera’s outreach program in Katie: The Strongest of the Strong.  Other appearances include being a featured soloist in concert with Ars Lyrica Houston.

 

Previous awards include an Encouragement Award from the Upper Midwest Region, as well as being the North Dakota–Manitoba District Winner in the 2022-2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. She was a finalist in the inaugural 2023 Duncan Williams Competition.
 

Previous young artist programs include Chautauqua Opera Company, Festival Napa Valley’s Manetti Shrem Opera Program, Brevard Music Festival, and Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy.
